Will my mobile phone have signal in Pakistan’s northern areas?

Mobile coverage is available in most towns of northern Pakistan, but signal becomes limited or unavailable in remote valleys and high-altitude routes. You should not expect consistent service outside populated areas.

Where Coverage Is Reliable

Major towns such as Skardu, Gilgit, Hunza, and Chitral generally have 3G or 4G coverage. Hotels, markets, and central areas usually offer stable connectivity for calls, messaging, and light internet use.

Where Signal Becomes Limited

Once you travel deeper into side valleys, trekking routes, or mountain passes, coverage drops significantly. In some areas, there may be no signal at all for several hours or even days.

Road journeys along the Karakoram Highway typically have intermittent service, with stronger signal in towns and weaker coverage between them.

If connectivity is important for your trip, inform family of your itinerary in advance and download offline maps before heading into remote regions.
