A return or onward ticket is not always mandatory, but immigration officers may ask for it as proof that you plan to leave Pakistan.
Is a return ticket required?
Pakistan does not officially require every traveler to show a return ticket on arrival, but it is commonly expected as part of standard immigration checks.
Airline vs immigration checks
Airlines often enforce this more strictly than immigration. At departure, you may be denied boarding if you cannot show proof of onward travel, especially if you are on a tourist visa.
What you may be asked for
- A return or onward flight ticket
- Evidence of your travel plans within the country
Travelers entering on business, family visit, or long-term visas are less likely to be questioned about a return ticket. However, for short-term visitors, having one helps avoid unnecessary questions.
If you plan to travel overland or leave without a fixed date, it is still advisable to have some form of onward travel proof to present if requested.
