November

November

November suits heritage travel, and the best places to visit in Pakistan in November are Lahore, Islamabad, Taxila and the Indus Valley sites of Sindh, as the plains cool. Fading autumn colour lingers in the northern valleys early in the month, and Islamabad hosts the Lok Mela folk festival. We plan private and small-group November tours.

Pakistan in November at a glance

November is cool and dry in the plains, and the comfortable season begins in Sindh, where Mohenjo-daro is best visited from November to February. In the north, the last autumn leaves drop in the first half of the month and nights fall below freezing.

The Babusar Pass usually closes in November, and many seasonal guesthouses in Hunza shut until March, though the Karakoram Highway stays open. Around Lahore, haze and smog can linger until mid-November, and in bad years parts of the motorway have closed for low visibility.

Festivals and events in November

Lok Mela, the folk festival run by Lok Virsa at Shakarparian in Islamabad, has been held in November in recent years: from 8 to 17 November in 2024 and 7 to 16 November in 2025. Over ten days, pavilions from every province show crafts, food, music and dance, and each evening has a cultural night. Dates are usually announced in October. It is one of the easiest ways to see the crafts and music of the whole country in a single afternoon.

What to pack for November

  • For the plains: light layers by day and a jumper for the evening.
  • For the north: a down jacket, thermal base layers and warm footwear.
  • For heritage sites: comfortable shoes and clothing suitable for mosques and shrines.
