July

July

July is monsoon season in the plains, so the best places to visit in Pakistan in July are high in the north: Skardu, the Deosai Plains, Hunza and Fairy Meadows, where the valleys stay fairly dry, wildflowers are out and the K2 trekking season is at its height. We plan private July trips around the weather.

Pakistan in July at a glance

The monsoon arrives in July, and July and August are its wettest months. Islamabad and Rawalpindi get heavy downpours, the plains are hot and humid, and flash floods and landslides can hit hill districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.

Skardu and much of Gilgit-Baltistan lie in the rain shadow of the Himalaya, so the monsoon brings them little rain. That makes Baltistan and the upper Karakoram the most dependable part of the country this month.

Best places to visit in Pakistan in July

  • Skardu and the Deosai Plains: July and August are the peak months on Deosai, with wildflowers in bloom and the best chance of seeing brown bears. Start with our page on Skardu.
  • K2 Base Camp and the Baltoro Glacier: July and August give the most settled weather and the most stable glacier conditions of the year.
  • Fairy Meadows: the jeep road is open and the meadows are green beneath Nanga Parbat. See Fairy Meadows.
  • Hunza: long days in Karimabad, boating on Attabad Lake and the drive up to Khunjerab. Read more on Hunza.
  • Naran and the Kaghan Valley: Lake Saif-ul-Malook and the Babusar road are open, though this side of the mountains lies closer to the monsoon belt, so expect showers.

Is it safe to travel to the north in July

It is the main season, but monsoon landslides can block the Karakoram Highway and the Babusar road for hours or sometimes days. We watch forecasts and road reports every morning and change the route when a section closes. Every July trip we plan uses local drivers who know the Karakoram Highway and its usual trouble spots.

  • Spare days: keep one at each end of the trip, since both road closures and cancelled flights happen in this season.
  • Packing: a rain jacket for Islamabad and the lower valleys, plus warm layers for cold nights on Deosai.

Shandur Polo Festival and July events

For many years the Shandur Polo Festival took place in early July, although the 2026 festival moved to June. If polo on the Shandur Pass is on your list, ask us for the confirmed dates before you book flights.

Plan your July trip

We have no fixed-date tours listed for July, but we arrange private trips to the north throughout the month. Tell us your dates and we will send a route, or look at June and August for scheduled departures.
