11 Days Hiking and Trekking Adventure

Trekking & Hiking

Trekking in Pakistan takes you into the Karakoram, Himalaya and Hindu Kush, home to five of the world's fourteen 8,000-metre peaks. Adventure Planners runs guided treks and hiking tours in northern Pakistan, from the walk up to Fairy Meadows to glacier routes deep in Baltistan, led by local guides who know the trails.

Why go trekking in Pakistan

Pakistan holds five of the fourteen peaks above 8,000 metres: K2, Nanga Parbat, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I and Gasherbrum II. Four of them stand around Concordia in the Karakoram, while Nanga Parbat anchors the western end of the Himalaya. Even a short trek here brings you face to face with ice walls and glaciers on a scale few other ranges can match.

The trails are lived in, too. Paths climb through apricot orchards, summer pastures and villages where shepherds still move their flocks along the same routes, so hiking in northern Pakistan is as much about the people of Gilgit-Baltistan as the mountains.

Best treks in Pakistan

  • Fairy Meadows and Nanga Parbat Base Camp: a jeep track climbs from Raikot Bridge on the Karakoram Highway to Tato village, then a walk of three to four hours reaches the meadows. Beyal Camp and the base camp lie further up the valley. Read more about Fairy Meadows.
  • Rakaposhi Base Camp: starts from Minapin in the Nagar valley and follows the Minapin Glacier beneath Rakaposhi (7,788 m) and Diran.
  • K2 Base Camp and Concordia: the classic expedition-style trek along the Baltoro Glacier from Askole, for fit trekkers with about two weeks to spend beyond Skardu.
  • Margalla Hills, Islamabad: Trails 3 and 5 are short forest hikes on the edge of the capital, a good warm-up before flying or driving north.

Best time for trekking in Pakistan

  • June to September: the main Pakistan trekking season for high routes. The Baltoro Glacier is usually accessible from late June through August.
  • April, May and October: better suited to lower valley walks in Hunza and Nagar, with blossom in spring and golden poplars in autumn.
  • Spring and autumn: the most comfortable months for the Margalla Hills trails, which are hot and humid in summer.

How our Pakistan trekking tours work

We run treks as private trips or in small groups, led by local guides from the northern valleys, with road transfers and jeeps arranged to suit the route. On higher trails we plan the pace around acclimatisation rather than speed.

Our 11 Days Hiking and Trekking Adventure brings several walks in Gilgit-Baltistan together in one trip, and we also plan custom routes around your fitness and the days you have.

Plan your trekking trip

Let us know how fit you feel, how long you can travel and the kind of route you have in mind, from a meadow walk to a glacier crossing. Tell us your dates and we will suggest a trek that fits, or see our wider range of adventure tours.
