11 Days Hiking and Trekking Adventure

Adventure

Adventure tourism in Pakistan ranges from treks towards Rakaposhi and jeep safaris across the Deosai Plains to white-water rafting on the Kunhar River and paragliding above Hunza. We plan active trips through the Karakoram and Himalaya with local guides and drivers, built around the activities you want to try.

Why choose Pakistan for an adventure trip

Northern Pakistan crowds some of the world's highest mountains into a small area, including K2, the second-highest peak on earth, and Nanga Parbat. Glacier-fed rivers, high plateaus and deep valleys sit within a day's drive of each other, so a single trip can combine trekking, rafting and a night camping at altitude.

Adventure activities in Pakistan

  • Trekking: from day hikes to longer routes such as Rakaposhi Base Camp above Minapin and the walk to Fairy Meadows below Nanga Parbat. See our trekking and hiking tours.
  • Jeep safari: 4x4 trips from Skardu onto the Deosai Plains, one of the highest plateaus in the world at an average of about 4,114 metres and a refuge of the Himalayan brown bear.
  • White-water rafting: the Kunhar River in the Kaghan Valley is the most popular run for beginners, and the Swat River has a longer season.
  • Paragliding: tandem flights are offered at Khanpur near Islamabad, and above Hunza and Skardu from about May to October.
  • Camping: nights under clear skies at Fairy Meadows, on the Deosai Plains and beside the lakes around Skardu.

Some activities, such as rafting and tandem paragliding, are run by specialist local operators. Tell us what you would like to try and we will build time for it into the route.

Our adventure tours in Pakistan

The 12D 11N The Karakoram Crown Rakaposhi Hunza Skardu tour takes in Rakaposhi, the Hunza valley and Skardu in one trip, while the 11 Days Hiking and Trekking Adventure gives more time on foot. We run adventure trips privately or in small groups, and can suggest activities to add around either tour.

Best time for adventure sports in Pakistan

  • May to August: the best months for rafting on the Kunhar, when snowmelt raises the river.
  • June to September: the Deosai Plains and the high trekking routes are open.
  • October: clear skies and autumn colour in Hunza and Skardu, good for hiking and photography.

Weather, roads and flexibility

Mountain weather and road conditions in the north can change quickly, so we keep some slack in adventure itineraries and adjust plans with you on the ground when needed. Read more about the region on our Skardu page.
