Why visit Nepal

Nepal holds eight of the world's ten highest mountains, including Everest, yet much of the country is easy to enjoy without climbing anything. The Kathmandu Valley has seven monument zones on the UNESCO World Heritage list, Pokhara sits on a lake beneath the Annapurna range, and Chitwan National Park is known for its one-horned rhinos. Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha, draws visitors from across Asia.

Best time to visit Nepal

  • October and November: clear skies after the monsoon and the best mountain views. This is peak trekking season.
  • March to May: the second trekking season, with rhododendrons in flower on the hills. Haze can hide distant peaks later in spring.
  • June to September: the monsoon brings rain, cloud and landslides on mountain roads, though Kathmandu and Pokhara still work for city breaks.
  • December to February: cold, clear days in the valleys, with high passes often closed by snow.

Nepal visa for Pakistani passport holders

According to the Embassy of Nepal in Islamabad, Pakistani passport holders can get a tourist visa on arrival in Nepal or apply in advance through the embassy. Visa rules for Pakistani passport holders change often; we check the current requirements when you enquire.

Nepal tourist places and things to do

  • Kathmandu: Durbar Square, the Swayambhunath stupa and the old royal city of Bhaktapur nearby.
  • Pokhara: boating on Phewa Lake, paragliding and sunrise over the Annapurnas from Sarangkot.
  • Trekking: Everest Base Camp, the Annapurna region and shorter walks such as Poon Hill.
  • Chitwan National Park: jeep and canoe safaris in search of rhinos and birdlife.
  • Lumbini: the Maya Devi Temple and the monasteries built around it by Buddhist countries.

How to get to Nepal from Pakistan

There are no direct flights between Pakistan and Nepal at present, so travellers from Islamabad, Lahore or Karachi fly with one stop, often through a Gulf hub. Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport is the usual entry point, with domestic flights and road links on to Pokhara and Chitwan.
