April

April

April is blossom month in the north, and the best places to visit in Pakistan in April are Hunza and Skardu, where apricot and cherry orchards flower beneath snow peaks, together with Islamabad and Lahore before the summer heat. Adventure Planners plans spring trips that pair the cities with the Karakoram valleys.

Pakistan in April at a glance

April is warm in the plains. Islamabad averages daytime highs of around 30°C, and Lahore climbs steadily towards the fierce heat of May and June. Sindh is already hot, which makes this the month to head north.

In Gilgit-Baltistan, days are pleasant and nights are cool. Snow still lies on the high passes, and the Babusar Pass and the Deosai Plains usually stay shut until late May or June.

Hunza and Skardu in April

Blossom climbs the valleys as the month goes on. Central Hunza is usually at its best in the first days of April, while higher villages such as Gulmit and Passu flower later, often into mid or late April. In Baltistan, the Skardu valley and Shigar bloom until mid-April, and Khaplu and Hushe follow from late April into early May. In Hunza, the pink and white orchards are framed by snow on Rakaposhi and the Ladyfinger peak.

Our 11 Days Lahore Islamabad Hunza Skardu tour runs in April and combines the orchards with the Mughal monuments of Lahore.

Best places to visit in Pakistan in April

  • Karimabad and Altit: Baltit and Altit forts stand above terraced fields and orchards.
  • Upper Hunza: Attabad Lake, the Passu Cones and the suspension bridges near Hussaini, with blossom arriving later than in Karimabad.
  • Khunjerab Pass: the border crossing with China traditionally reopened each April. Since December 2024 the two governments have agreed to keep it open all year, although snow can still block the road.
  • Islamabad: the trails of the Margalla Hills are best walked before the heat builds.
  • Lahore: early mornings at the Lahore Fort, the Badshahi Mosque and the Shalimar Gardens.

April travel tips

  • Flights: Gilgit and Skardu flights are often cancelled in spring, so keep a spare day or travel by road.
  • Clothing: light layers for the cities, and a fleece and jacket for evenings in the valleys.
  • Timing: flowering shifts by a week or two from year to year, so avoid tying your trip to one exact date.
  • Crowds: blossom weeks are busy with domestic visitors, so hotels in Karimabad should be booked early.
