Is an invitation letter required for all Pakistan visa types?

For most tourist e-visas, yes. Since Pakistan suspended Visa Prior to Arrival on 1 January 2026, a Letter of Invitation from a licensed tour operator is a mandatory document for most tourist e-visa applications. Business and family visit visas need an invitation from the company or family host instead.

Tourist visas

Tourists must hold an approved e-visa before they fly, and the application asks for a Letter of Invitation from a government-licensed tour operator listed on the NADRA Visa Portal. A hotel booking alone is usually not enough.

Other visa categories

Business visas need an invitation from the Pakistani company you are visiting, and family visit visas need one from your host in Pakistan. In both cases the letter confirms the purpose of travel and your local contact.

Check your nationality

Requirements can differ by nationality. Make sure your supporting documents match your visa category, and ask a licensed operator if you are unsure.
