8 Days Balochistan Hingol National Park Tour

Hingol

Hingol National Park is one of Pakistan's largest national parks, covering about 6,100 sq km of desert, mountains and coast in Balochistan, some 200 km from Karachi. Drive the Makran Coastal Highway to see the Princess of Hope, the Balochistan Sphinx, mud volcanoes, Kund Malir beach and the Hinglaj Mata temple.

Why visit Hingol National Park

Declared a national park in 1988, Hingol spreads across parts of Lasbela, Gwadar and Awaran districts and takes in river valleys, desert plains, eroded mountains and the Arabian Sea shore. The scenery changes by the hour along a single road. Wildlife includes Sindh ibex, Balochistan urial and chinkara, while marsh crocodiles are seen along the coast near the park.

Things to see in Hingol

  • Princess of Hope: a tall hoodoo shaped like a crowned woman looking towards the horizon, named by Angelina Jolie during a visit to Pakistan as a UN goodwill ambassador.
  • Balochistan Sphinx: a natural rock formation, also called the Lion of Balochistan, that looks remarkably like a carved sphinx.
  • Hinglaj Mata temple: a cave shrine and Shakti Peetha, one of the most important Hindu pilgrimage sites in Pakistan, with a large annual yatra each spring.
  • Mud volcanoes: cones such as Chandragup, which pilgrims climb on the way to Hinglaj to throw coconuts into the crater.
  • Kund Malir beach: a long, golden beach where the desert hills run straight down to the sea.
  • Hingol River: it winds through the park and forms an estuary before reaching the Arabian Sea.

How to reach Hingol National Park from Karachi

The main sights lie on or just off the Makran Coastal Highway (N-10), which opened in 2004 and runs 653 km from Karachi to Gwadar. Kund Malir is roughly three to four hours from Karachi by road, so a day trip is possible but long. Staying a night near the coast leaves time for the rock formations in the softer morning and evening light.

Best time to visit Hingol

  • October to March: mild temperatures and clear skies, the most comfortable months for walks and beach stops.
  • May to August: daytime heat often passes 40°C, so start early and keep outdoor time short.
  • Spring pilgrimage season: expect big crowds around the Hinglaj Mata temple during the yatra.
