ROHTAS FORT 1-Day Excursion:
UNESCO World Heritage Site

During one of your days in Islamabad, enjoy a private 1-day tour to Rohtas Fort, one of Punjab’s most breathtaking UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This 16th-century marvel was built by the Afghan king, Ghazi Shah, in 1541. The goal of the fort was to hold back attacks by the local Gakhar tribes and the defeated Hindu ruler Raja Man Singh, and maintain Mughal control over the lands.

  • UNESCO: Rohtas Fort was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1997

  • Architectural Features: The fort showcases a blend of Indo-Islamic and Persian architectural styles, featuring massive stone walls, bastions, gates, and intricate carvings. The fort covers an area of about 13 hectares

  • Strategic Importance: Rohtas Fort was built to secure the Grand Trunk Road, an important trade route connecting northern India with the eastern provinces

  • Construction: Commissioned by Sher Shah Suri, the founder of the Suri Empire, the fort was strategically positioned on a hilltop, overlooking the area to serve both military and administrative purposes
